- I first got involved in network marketing in 1994. At that time, I was not very comfortable with just walking up to someone and introducing myself and then spewing my products or opportunity all over them. I made myself do it though because I was told that it worked. It’s a numbers game. The more people you spew on, the better your chances of success. I failed miserably for several years. I’ve always had a passion for being my own boss and being in charge of my own time, so I kept doing what my “leaders” told me to do.
As the years went on, I just got hungrier and hungrier. I despised working for anyone but myself and being away from my family for 10-12 hours a day. Finally, it hit me like a Mack truck. I came to the realization that I was just being a follower .If I ever wanted to make the kind of money that it would take to have time freedom, I needed to become a leader.
I stopped buying product samples that I was going to give away and sometimes even pay to have others try my product. All that did was put more money in my upline’s pocket. I started investing in my education. I bought “Your First Year In Network Marketing” .Great book, you should read it if you haven’t already. I read several books since then but the real eye opener was Mike Dillard’s “Magnetic Sponsoring”.
I felt like such an idiot. I was on Mike’s mailing list since 2006, but I never wanted to spend the $40. Now I can only imagine how costly of a mistake it was not to buy it a long time ago. WOW! Attraction marketing, in my opinion, MS is like the bible of network marketing. I’ve learned that this business is not about me. It’s about helping others. It wasn’t easy, but I’ve learned how to give without want.
